FAQ

What is a corn?

Corns are small parts of skin on the toes that harden and protrude.Hyperkeratosis, which refers to the hardening of the dermal layer, tends to appear on friction zones, namely on the top, en and sides of the toes.

What causes a corn?

The appearance and development of a protrusion on the toes can be associated with various causes, but the most frequent is wearing ill-fitting or inappropriate shoes.Sweating from the feet or repetitive activities like walking, running or various sports can also cause a corn to form on the toe or foot.

Where does the term “corn” come from?

There are lots of debates on the origin of the term corn and exactly what it refers to.It’s thought that it was coined by encyclopedist Aulus Cornelius Celsus back in 25-50 BC, and even Shakespeare referenced corns in some of his plays!

What’s the difference between a corn and a callous?

The corn differs from a callous in that it has a “horn” tip at its centre, which tends to press into nerve endings, often causing pain.

When should I use PODERM® CORN – CALLUSES PROTECTION?

To sooth pains and stop the formation of painful corns in their tracks, you need to protect the skin for at least a month. These small protective sleeves are lined with Arnica gel, enabling pressure to be distributed and friction to be reduced, treating the corn.

We also recommend wearing shoes that fit properly, with a lot of support for the toes, and to change shoe types every day.
